Agreement between Serbia and Canada on social insurance

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Policy Mr. Jovan Krkobabic and Canadian Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Mr. Roman Waschuksigned the Agreement on Social Insurance and the Administrative Agreement for its implementation. This document directly regulates the exercise of the rights to pension and disability insurance for more than 100,000 citizens of Serbian origin who, according to available data, live and work in Canada.


The Agreement on social insurance signed today will be urgently sent for ratification to the Serbian Parliament, which is expected in the Parliament of Canada too.

The Agreement on social insurance regulates the rights of beneficiaries of the two countries in cases of occupational injury or occupational disease. If the rights have been gained in Canada, the payment can be done in Serbia.
Serbia applies social security agreements with 27 countries, most of which are the members of the European Union, where a great number of citizens of Serbia live and work.

Mr. Krkobabic said that,for the past two years, such agreements have been concluded with Slovenia, Turkey, Cyprus, Switzerland, Belgium, Slovakia, Austria, Bulgaria, adding that he expected to conclude the agreements with Romania, Russia and Ukraine, France and Hungary.

According to the minister the initiative for the conclusion of agreements with Australia, New Zealand and the United States has been launched.
